Generating GS1 Barcodes

The Indigo8 System allows you to generate and assign barcodes to your styles.

Before you can do this, we need you to be a current holder of a barcode certificate from the company GS1.

They are a global company that assigns barcode numbers for Australian businesses. They ensure that each barcode number you are licensed to use is unique and no other businesses can use your barcodes on their products.

In fact, many major retailers in Australia require GS1 barcodes on their products.

Step-by-step guide

To obtain a GS1 certificate follow these steps:

  1. Go to the website https://www.gs1au.org/join-gs1

  2. You will have to make an account and will be required to provide information about your business including the size and turnover so they can determine how many barcodes you will need as well as the fee you are to be charged

  3. You will be sent a certificate with your company prefix on it and will have all the information you need to generate barcodes on the system.

Now that you have your GS1 Certificate you can create barcodes in Indigo8.

You will then forward as an email you have received from GS1 with the codes so we can load these into the system for you.

If you're ready to assign barcodes to styles refer to the article Applying GS1 Barcodes to Styles.
