Creating GS1 Barcodes

The Indigo8 Lite System allows you to generate and assign barcodes to your styles.

Before you can do this, we need you to be a current holder of a barcode certificate from the company GS1. They are a global company that assigns barcode numbers for Australian businesses. They ensure that each barcode number you are licensed to use is unique and no other businesses can use your barcodes on their products. In fact, many major retailers in Australia require GS1 barcodes on their products.

Step-by-step guide

To obtain a GS1 certificate follow these steps:

  1. Go to the website https://www.gs1au.org/barcodes/
  2. You will have to make an account and will be required to provide information about your business including the size and turnover so they can determine how many barcodes you will need as well as the fee you are to be charged
  3. You will be sent a certificate with your company prefix on it and will have all the information you need to generate barcodes on the system.

Now that you have your GS1 Certificate you can create barcodes in Indigo8 Lite.

To generate barcodes on the system
  1. Go to the Settings section >> click the Styles tab >> click the Barcodes sub-tab
  2. Enter the Company Prefix, Start # and End # into the Barcodes Screen found on your GS1 Certificate
  3. Click Generate GS1 Codes button and your barcodes will be generated and ready to assign to styles later on. If you're ready to assign barcodes to styles refer to the article Applying GS1 Barcodes to Styles.
